My first introduction to the Posies was a couple of months ago on
MTV's "120 Minutes". Two of them were on hand for an in-studio
interview, during which one of them said something to the effect
that every XTC album was a must-have for them. (The other one
obviously agreed.)

How does the first album compare to _Dear 23_?

Hullo,

Does anyone know what the story is behind "Towers of London" Is it that
something happened during construction (ie. lots of death) or is it, as I
suspect, that the song is just a comment on colonialism in general?

As for the next album I too hope that they get some "edge" back, it's
time for change. My intorduction to the band was "The Big Express" and
I love every minute of it (though it is no longer my favorite, I think
mummer takes that one, presently anyway). I would love to see some of
the Skylarking outtakes make on the next one (probably just a dream),
in particular Terrorism, Let's make a den, and The Troubles. Does
anyone know if the Grass EP (which these demos are on, in Canada anyway)
have made it to CD yet???? Oh and Blue Berret would be nice too.

And speaking of Canada I have a copy of the Canadian Skylarking I'd like
to sell. It is however flawed :-( there is a small fleck of dust UNDER
the plastic causing skips during glass. It may be able to be ground out
but I've not the patience to do it. If anyone is interested drop me email.

Does anyone know if Geffen will release "The Compact XTC" in addition to
the other albums...it is the only hole in my collection.

o Slobbering for a new product, I went and bought the XTC video that contains
the hilarious puppet show run by them, an interview on Canadian TV, and the
videos for Dear God and The Mayor of Simpleton. I paid $40 for it, in spite
of the appreciated advice of consumer advocate Relph Nader ( :) ) that his
was less. So if you're planning on getting one, shop around. The show is
hilarious, the interview is good, and the videos are interesting. I think
watching someone's videos puts you in danger of having one rigid mental in-
terpretation of the song from then on, discouraging imaginative manifestations.
That doesn't bother me with these two, but it may if I ever see the Grass
video or the Senses Working Overtime one... both very evocative songs.

o Re: >Aren't they weird enough without being on drugs?

Sure! But what about the "Place of Hallucination" on the map of Swindon
on Go 2?

o Speaking of Go 2.. do the photos of the 4 of them on the back cover of the
CD look like EXTREMELY SLOPPY SCANS??

o I also got to hear the Partridge-produced "Miracle of the Age" by the
Doctor and the Medics. Good song...

It seems that both Virgin and Geffen released a CD Single version
of _King For A Day_, (Geffen 21236-2, Virgin VSCD 1177).
Is it the same animal?????????? And if not, what's the difference?
I have the domestic release (Geffen) which includes:
KFAD (Czar Mix), KFAD (Versailles Mix, the album version as far
as I can tell), _Toys_, and _Dessert Island_.

Now that I think about it, I believe I've come around to XTC in a similar
way. I first got English Settlement in a tape trade with my sister when
it was first out (a rare source of music, believe me) and played it over
until I loved it. Then I sort of forgot about XTC until Skylarking was
the rage, and said, well I should get that, too.

Then I started on a tape buying frenzy (didn't have a CD player) buying
everything I could, and now that I have a player have secured everything
but Mummer inside of a month (which is no easy feat in my area).

Now I swear by the band and have a few friends in an XTC panic. For me
it wasn't like blinders, it was like a flood gate:-).

I believe these are Andy's (or someone's) rendition of just what a
  New Town Animal sounds like.

I don't know if this counts, but don't forget the bit of studio
overtalk stuff at the beginning of Tower of London. Has anyone
translated this? I'd especially like to know what that last little
mumble JUST before the music says.

I have tried for a long time to figure out what was said at the
end of "Living Through Another Cuba", but I've never been able to
make it out. Whatever it is, it sure caused someone to bust out
laughing!

Is the Dear God cdep with the Homo Safari series on it still in print?
I'd like to get a copy of the Virgin UK catalog "Sound Knowledge" and see if
it is listed there. If anyone can tell me Virgin UK's cust serv addr or
where in the states I can get a copy I'd appreciate it.

Also, there was a question before about the artwork on the King For
A Day single. That is a detail from a larger picture showing the crusaders
sacking Jerusulam (sp???).
