I bet the first one is the Geffen release of RAG -N- BONE BUFFET.  If you
don't have it yet, GET IT!  It's a killer 80 minute collection of b-sides,
live stuff, pseudonymous releases...

I don't think the second one could possibly be the new album given the news
about the delayed start of recording in the latest Little Express, but I
hope I'm wrong!

Mermaid Smiled is on the Canadian version of the Skylarking CD, with Dear
God tacked on at the end.  The way it should be everywhere, in my book, but
alas, not everyone thought so.  Mermaid is on Rag & Bone Buffet.

I was just out of bed this morning and the phone rang.  I thought to
myself, who would ring me up so early?  But it was a friend telling me
that Andy Partridge was supposed to be interviewed on my local
community college FM station, KFJC Los Altos Hills.  So I walked out
to the car (I don't have a radio in the house) and tuned in.  The DJ
mentioned that Andy Partridge was supposed to be ringing up to do a
phone interview.  However, Andy's phone call never came in, so I was
disappointed this morning.

       I was reading the teeny weeny type on the front of a Peel Sessions CD
    the other day (the Fall, it was...) and noticed, right in between Wire and
    The Shop Assassins(I think, all but Ass is cut off) that there is an
    XTC Peel Session!  I was moderately surprised, as I had never seen anything
    of that sort, and it wasn't in the discography.

       Is the BBS lying, or have they just not issued it yet?  A buttload of old
    Peel Sessions are being re-released these days, so...

It's for real, but has not been issued in the Strange Fruit series.  At least
one of the tracks they recorded for a BBC session (not positive that it was
for Peelie, but I think so) turned up as a B-side..."Scissor Man", I believe,
but I'm a long way from my records at the moment.  Anyway, there are still
many, many unreleased Peel Sessions...the one I'm really waiting for is the
Bonzo Dog Band session (check the fine print, it's on the cover somewhere).

Subject: Rag & Bone Buffet

Yes, Geffen finally got it together and released _Rag & Bone Buffet_
in the U.S.  It comes in the dreaded longbox, and I don't know if it
comes with any better (or different) booklet than the UK release.  If
anybody knows any more details, please send in now.

I was also able to locate a copy of Cud's _Hey!Wire_ CD-single, the
title track is produced by XTC's David Gregory.  This three-track
single ROCKS!  I've been playing it non-stop since I got it.  The
title track is another in and out of love song, much akin to Cud's
"Magic" (a positive view on a negative situation?).  There is a short
solo drum section, something you don't hear much on singles nowadays.
The second track, "Purple Love Balloon", is slightly psychadelic,
especially in the lyrics ("I want to fly you high \ In my purple love
balloon"), except for the last section, which is wildly purple,
complete with flanging guitar feedback and grunge.  The last track is
more noisy than the first two, the vocals are hard to understand in
the wonderful wall of sound.  Very simple, but really catchy, with a
bassline to make you move.  More guitar distortion!  This is one of
those records that usually says "Play Loud" on it.  Yes.  Good stuff.
