In 1989, XTC visited radio stations in what is now called the Acoustic
Radio Tour.  They visited the following stations (and more):

Only Andy kidding himself (or, more likely, being exceptionally modest).

Whenever I finish off a radio broadcast, I *always* think of how much I could
have sounded better, while those around me think that it sounded wonderful.
It is the perfectionist in me that sees all the problems and can't forgive
for them.  I can see that tendency in many of the artists that I admire,
including (especially from the C&C book from Twomey) Andy Partridge.

Note; My partner in crime calls my continued insistance of at least one XTC
track per week (during a 2.5 hour program) the "ubiquitous XTC."  Heh.
So, if you're ever in Houston and want me to play a LOT of XTC, please phone
us up!  Bruce would LOVE to hear from you!

Hello XTC fans,

  I've had access to Internet for a couple of weeks now and just recently
discovered Chalkhills.  I haven't had a chance to read the XTC FAQ yet, but
I suspect a lot has already been discussed.  I do have what may be a new
question though.

  I was reading the 'new/upcoming releases' column in issue 61 (August 1993)
of Alternative Press.  In it they mentioned a July release for an album called
"The Greatest Living Englishman" by Andy Partridge and Martin Newell on
Pipeline records.  Does anyone know anything about this?  Is there any chance
that this will be released domestically in the US?

Hey, now doesn't John make that KALX broadcast sound good.
Anyone for a Tape Tree?

What's a tape tree?  Why it's simple, we get the best darn copy we can
find as a seed (HEY 'Francisconians, anyone out there tape this show with a
DAT deck?)  And then...

   "A" makes a couple of copies for the "B" people
   The "B" people make a couple of copies for the "C" people
   and so on until everyone gets a copy of the show.

   This is what it looks like:

This can only be done, of course, with material that is firmly rooted in
the public domain, so that there is no question of copy right violation to
upset the net police.  It is my belief that anything taped off the air
waves is free to be copied.

If a high quality seed tape can be found, I volunteer to organize the
tree.  I will provide more details if this tree looks like it might be
sprouting.  I have participated in many Tape Trees, and organized one over
on the Dead-Heads net, where many a happy tape collector has found true
bliss;-)

Well, that only helps make the song's point.  The Mayor of Simpleton not only
doesn't know how to tell the weight of the sun, he also doesn't know that he
should be saying "mass" and not "weight".

More record store perusing located this oddity: a German New Wave
sampler compilation which includes XTC's "Making Plans For Nigel", New
Model Army's "Green And Grey", Thomas Dolby, The Fixx, and many more.

Subject: Bought and Rebought

In reponse to the recent posts about stuff we bought more than once:

I did buy Drums and Wires on five seperate occasions; two copies on vinyl,
because the song order was different, upgraded to cd, had to replace it when
my stereo was stolen with the disc in it(!), and then bought a copy hoping
to get "Hop," on it, based on misleading notes on the back, and immediately
returned it when I discovered the error.  I finally gave up and bought
Waxworks.

I have also gone through five copies of English Settlement; the Epic single
disc edit, the Virgin double, another copy of that to get the lyrics, upgrade
to cd, and then the Geffen cd to get all the songs.

I was wondering if a more apt question for this group might not be:

Is there any XTC material that you only bought once?

Personally, the only stuff I have one copy of are the last two studio albums,
O&L and Nonesvch.  Everything else I had on vinyl and upgraded.

Just a thought.

Subject: Live English Settlement stuff/New AP release

I have three questions:

1. Does anyone have any idea if live XTC from their few dates on the
English Settlement tour exist? I have a 1980 live CD and two 1989
Oranges & Lemons era CDs of radio shows. I would love to get some live
stuff from 1982 onward.

2. I just asked a guy at Silver Platters, an area CD store, and the guy
behind the counter knows Martin Newell. He hasn't seen the new AP disc
with Martin and we couldn't find any dates or info in the stores release lists.

3. I used to have some old tapes of Captain Sensible from the early
80s. Does anyone know if his early pre-Revolution Now CDs are
available? There used to be a song called Croyden on one of them. The
titles I forget but I'd love to find out if they're available.
