Joe Lynn: I know you probably bear me great personal animosity, but I have liked Shriekback for a long time and let me recommend "Oil and Gold" and probably the best album of theirs (ooh, will he get flamed or is this the popular opinion? stay tuned, faithful watchers...) Anyway, "oil and gold" on CD is a tremendous experience. All the soft songs really kick butt without scratching and popping. I suppose "Jam Science" is also a killer, but it's only available on vinyl. Some of the songs from it are on "Best of Shriekback vol. 2" which might be a good thing if you just want a sort of overall sampling of stuff - it contains tracks from "Oil and Gold" as well as "Jam Science." +---------------------- Is there any ESCAPE from NOISE? --------------------+ | | |\ | jsd@gaffa.mit.edu | "I think quotes are very dangerous | | \|on |/rukman | jsd@umass.bitnet | things." -- Kate Bush | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+

I've only heard >_Big Night Music_ and _Go Bang!_ Well, I'm no hardcore Shriekophile, but I'd have to agree with Karl MacRae that _Oil & Gold_ is their best. I think _Care_ is also very good. I didn't care much for _BNM_; reminded me to much of Sade, or something. I've hated the bits of _Go Bang!_ that I've heard. I'm not really familiar with _Jam Science_ or the _Tench_ EP. We now return you to your regularly scheduled XTC. -- Stewart
