Relph <chalkhills-request@chalkhills.org> Subject: Official XTC Merchandise I am happy to announce that Official XTC Merchandise will shortly be available! Paris Promotions of Swindon has announced the availability of its 1990 brochure, offering such things as T-shirts, posters, postcards, pens, and suchlike. Unfortunately I don't know what arrangement Paris Promotions has made for overseas inquiries, that is, whether or not they would prefer a self-addressed and stamped envelope in order to send a catalogue. In any case, here's their address, where you can request an Official XTC Merchandise Brochure: Paris Promotions 49 Stafford St. Old Town, Swindon Wiltshire SN1 3PQ

I think John should send masters of the tape to anybody with an excellent dubber and who wouldn't mind in turn a little extra work. But this might result in low quality 3rd generation copies. In all fairness I think that those contributing to the tape should get copies: Let me say now that I narrowly missed being a contributor. But what about the rest of us? Might I suggest a scheme used by Joshua Trupin on the R.E.M. discussion list. He accepted two tape of equal quality and sent one back recorded. I know that this might result with John having a crapload of blank tapes that he might not really want so this is only a suggestion. Gary Jedlicka GJJ5315@Star.tamu.edu
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Date: Tue, 30 Jan 90 18:18 EST From: FOURNIER@ecs.umass.edu Subject: xtc-albums/discs I've got a question for xtc fans--why aren't any xtc albums besides Skylarking, Big Express, English Settlement + Oranges and Lemons printed on compact disc? I found this info in the book of "albums in print" at Tower Records in Boston. If anyone knows why, or knows if this is true or not, please let me know. -Tony [ In the good ole U.S. of A. this is true. Everything except for _Beeswax_ is available on CD in the U.K., Canada, and Japan, I believe. -- John ]
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Date: Tue, 30 Jan 1990 22:55:36 PST From: John M. Relph <relph@presto.ig.com> Subject: Sundry and Various New discovery of the week: the _Smash Hits_ flexi-disc of ``Ten Feet Tall'' has an introductory disc jockey voice over. The DJ says, And now a group whose name I just can't pronounce, so I'll spell it. It's XTC, and a completely rerecorded version of the track ``Ten Feet Tall'' from their latest Virgin album, called _Drums and Wires_. The voice sounds pretty much like Richard Skinner, the same person who introduces the BBC College Concert. ------- The reviewers in _BAM_ (Bay Area Music) magazine chose XTC's _Oranges and Lemons_ as the 30'th best album of the year, tied with Pere Ubu's _Cloudland_. Tower Records' _Pulse_ magazine chose _English Settlement_ as the best Rock/Pop album of the decade. Amazing! Here's what they have to say: _English Settlement_ -- XTC (Geffen/Virgin, 1982). A perfect album, pure and simple, and they didn't even run out of gas afterwards. (Brett Milano) They also chose _Oranges and Lemons_ as the best Rock/Pop album of 1989. Not bad, eh? ------- Interesting note: On the _Grass_ 12-inch single, the message scratched in the inner groove reads, "Cut with a mower at the Townhouse", while the flip side (which has ``Extrovert'' and ``Dear God'') reads, "No comment." ------- This note was found in the September 1979 issue of _Trouser Press_: XTC, who lost keyboard whiz Barry Andrews to a solo career recently, have engaged the services of guitarist Dave Gregory as his replacement and reports suggest that all's well once again on the White Music front. ------- Lots of new subscribers to Chalkhills within the last couple of weeks. Let's hear from you! -- John
