That's certainly a valid point of view. What *I* hear when I listen to
those podcasts is the sound of two guys who seem like they are practically
best friends now. Considering the circumstances when Barry left the band,
I find that to be remarkable. It gives me hope that the two of them will
continue to work together musically, since they seem to enjoy each other's
company so much. "Dire" is the last word that I would use to describe the
listening experience I had with these podcasts.

Hi folks,

I can't agree with Pop Boy's thoughts on the Monstrance podcast of Messrs.
Partridge and Andrews. Drunk? Maybe. Having Fun? Definitely. Informative on
the subject of Monstrance and it's tracks? Definitely definitely.

I p!ssed myself laughing at parts of this podcast whilst listening on the
train on Friday. This elicited stranger than usual looks from the schoolkids
cluttering up the carriage. Anyway, I've enjoyed the podcasts and I will be
buying Monstrance, as soon as my bank balance recovers from the last bout of
renovations, not because it's Andy's latest project but because I find the
music so intriguing. The podcasts have assisted me in making this decision.

Norman Wisdom masquerading as Joe Stalin does it for me.

Back to the engine room,

Andrew Gowans

P.S. - I feel more excited about Monstrance than I was for Fuzzy Warbles.

P.P.S. - I better lay down for a while.

Hi:

Over at the XTCfans MySpace site (http://www.myspace.com/xtcfans), the
song of the week is "Garden of Earthly Delights."

If you want to know why a Saturday morning cult classic inspired the
name of Colin's bass line, and which positive Prog rocker used to hang
out at the studio listening, check out the XTCfans blog site at
http://blog.myspace.com/xtcfans.

Welcome to the garden of earthly delights
Welcome to a billion Arabian nights

I had forgotten about the plight of the Prudences and
the Ritas. They make the Top Ten Names You Don't Want
To Have At Any Time In The Rock Era list, along with
Lola, Jude, Alice, Maybelline, Lucille, Tommy, one
more we can argue over, and especially (drum roll)
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ber Ann.

Is there actually anyone named Lather? If so, we can
add him to the list.

Considering where I live, I'm tempted to add Jo-Jo,
but even I'm not that chauvinistic. I've had the third
and fourth lines of "Get Back" sung at me by hosts and
other locals when I've traveled, but that experience
was never anything worse than a hoot.

By the way, would Jo-Jo really have had to leave his
home in Tucson, Arizona, for some California grass? Oh
sure -- the same way he would have had to leave
Amsterdam or Marrakesh.

Random thought: Hey, Relph-san, would it be
deal-killingly difficult to publish a
country-by-country census of the United Chalkhills
Nations?

P.S.: Now playing: The Kinks' *Village Green
Preservation Society*, and also *Preservation Act 1*,
especially the intoxicating "Sweet Lady Genevieve." I
bought the former on CD, but I rejoined eMusic and
downloaded the latter. eMusic seems to have
straightened out a problem it had a couple of years
ago, when some songs were missing their last two or
three seconds. That's not a problem with most songs,
especially the ones that end in a slow fade, but you
don't want to listen to a certain overly-famous Derek
and the Dominoes song without hearing the tweedle-dee
at the end, or to Mojo Nixon's "Elvis Is Everywhere"
without the terminal "Thank yuh vurry mush." Or is
that just me?

Ryan I taunt thee not my friend. I am assuming that the offending word
was 'cool' at the end of my wee fact about melting guns in
Sheffield. I only suggested that the link between the two songs was
cool (it's how my mind works). Whether or not I have an issue with
guns isn't something that I would broadcast to the world, let alone
taunt someone with.

Anyway Chalksters, I was having a tidy up in my attic the other day
and came across a box containing some old copies of Strangled, you
know the old Stranglers fanzine. I soon became engrossed and the
tidying ceased, especially when I found a tenth anniversary issue from
1984 which contains a rather interesting piece. Hugh Cornwell
interviewing Andy, Colin and Dave. Has anyone else seen it? It's quite
amusing.

I'm sure Chalkhills will go on even if the dynamic duo don't. Keep
posting all you people of the chalk.
