Well, actually, yes Message-ID: <1325348064.55209.YahooMailClassic@web161203.mail.bf1.yahoo.com> The day after my recommendation of the Sound Opinions music podcast, in which I said I bought CDs by Trombone Shorty and Le Butcherettes based on the hosts' rave reviews, T. Shorty's album, *For True*, is Amazon's (U.S.) download special of the day, priced at US$3.99. Coincidence? You be the ju ... well, actually, yes. I'm not stroking the starmaker machinery, and I'm not simply unlucky -- the CD was a Christmas gift for someone who still prefers to slide discs into players, so I couldn't simply have waited even if I'd known. But I still want to cuss a bit on this final day of 2011. In the immortal words of Pogo Possum: Bazz Fazz the Rowrbazzle! Ryan Anthony An independent Internet content provider

------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Jan 2012 09:06:16 -0800 (PST) From: Ryan Anthony <hamsterranch@yahoo.com> Subject: Bonnie Bramlett was the pugilista? Message-ID: <1325610376.61531.YahooMailClassic@web161201.mail.bf1.yahoo.com> Christopher Coolidge reports it was Bonnie Bramlett, not Bonnie Raitt, who slugged Elvis Costello when he spoke coarsely of Ray Charles. I defer to Coolidge-san, who is one of the five or six people on this site the rest of us ought to be paying to read, but my memory couldn't be clearer that the pugilista was Raitt. Maybe the source -- a dj? an alternative-weekly music columnist? -- I got the news from three decades ago was wrong. Reviewing the album Costello released after the incident, *Get Happy!!*, eMusic contributor Douglas Wolk says this: "After a drunken quarrel on the Armed Forces tour turned into a disaster that left Costello looking like a dick at best and a racist at worst (in retrospect, it was definitely 'dick'), he took solace in old soul records a" the deep Southern soul of Stax most of all a" and somehow ended up cranking out even more amazing songs than he had been over the previous few years." I have it on vinyl. It's time to download. If anyone asks, "Okay, but where's the love for Bonnie B.?," I'll reply that I am one of the two or three dozen people who bought the Fleetwood Mac album, *Time*, on which her daughter appears. Yes, Bekka, along with Dave Mason and Billy Burnette, was a member of the Mac for about a week in the mid-'90s when Stevie and Lindsey were off pouting or detoxing somewhere and Mick, John, and Christine wanted to make a record. *Time* is a labor of love by relaxed old pros who know it won't sell and don't care -- like the stuff Nick Lowe has been putting out recently. (Just avoid "These Strange Times," which is the "Revolution 9" of Fleetwood Mac.) How'd the band come to choose Delaney & Bonnie's daughter? Maybe someone who'd had two sangrias said "Tribeca" and someone who'd had three made a quick phone call. Ryan Anthony An independent Internet content provider

Message-ID: <1325729899.95026.YahooMailClassic@web161506.mail.bf1.yahoo.com> Hey there Chalkfolkies ... and Greetings from North Carolina!! Being a longtime and devoted fan of these talented Swindon cats who call(ed) themselves XTC, I got to thinking about something here ... Call it an epiphany. Call it a sudden brainstorm. Call it "too much time on my hands" (... and not the Styx song). Does anyone out there in this thing called "the great unknown" happen to possibly possess knowledge of the e-mail address(es) of June and Pete Dix in Canada? If you're a bonafide XTC-ite such as myself, then these two names should DEFINITELY ring a bell with you ... Yup, they were the ones who published the now-defunct (yet historical!!) XTC newsletter, The Little Express. I just recently came across back copies that I'd kept all these years and must admit that while looking through them, the warm memories just flooded over me like bath-water. I actually sat there with a smile on my face as I was turning the pages! It ... was ... wonderful!!! So wonderful, in fact, that I would LOVE to contact June and Pete to simply let them know that they are indeed NOT forgotten by this particular XTC fan. Hence my question of their e-mail address. Mr. Relph, with all the wonderful "inside" connections that you have pertaining to "The Swindon Four/Three," think you might be able to help me out here? Thanks, in advance, my friend. The band now may be somewhat of an after-thought these days, but THE MUSIC LIVES ON!!! :-) If anyone can help me here with finding a way to contact June and Pete, I'd truly appreciate any serious assistance from you ... Awaiting anxiously while back to lurking-mode ... /Danny Phipps
