We all know that the members of the Zappa '88 band were XTC fans, and
so were the member of Jellyfish ofcourse. But that bassplayer Norwood
Fisher of crossover heroes Fishbone (one of my personal faves) listens
to XTC (also one of my faves, ofcourse) to strengthen his songwriting
would never have crossed my mind. It's in this (funny and cool)

I just wanted to share this moment from Saturday night...

There was a Guided by Voices-associated soiree this weekend, in Dayton,
Ohio, and there are quite a few XTC sorts in that crowd. After all of the
thrashing about, I was leaving the club and one of the affiliated struck up
a chorus of "Senses...," and who couldn't join in on that? Another of the
usual suspects then said that he was going to start an XTC tribute band in
Dayton and call it "Drums & Briars." I left on this high note.

Today is a sad day... Dan has decided (with good reason) to hang up his
Fossil Fool gloves. If any of my friends local to West London love XTC (the
band!), can sing, play guitar & keyboards, or knows someone who can... and
is interested, please let me know. We have a deadline of September with a
gig in Swindon, and possibly one a week earlier in London, so plenty of
time.

My thanks go out to Dan Farmer for helping to get us going, and we will miss
you! But, Ed, Matt & I wish to continue, hence the plea.

Ape only owns the vinyl rights.  The digital rights still rest with
Virgin, and I'd suggest contacting them about a digital release.

However, what you want to ask for is a *digital re-master with the
polarity corrected*, otherwise you're expecting an improvement in
sound quality with a digital release of an analogue-targetted
re-master of a digitially-recorded album offered as a 320 kbit/s
download designed to play on a portable music device through earbud
headphones.

Coupled with the fact that they'd then compress the sound to modern
loudness levels to appeal to Teh Kidz Today, you'd end up with zero
headroom, lessened-dynamics and constant digital clipping, resulting
in a `Skylarking' that sounds smaller, flatter, and far less
emotionally-exciting than you remember, but you'll probably just
assume the problem is you and You're Just Getting Old and maybe it's
time to buy that motorbike you always wanted back when you were in
high school.

Basically, the extra damage done is probably going to negate the added
benefits of correct polarisation, so that Japanese remaster that came
out in the 2000's is probably still your safest bet.  Why this whole
process has to be so ridiculously complicated is beyond me, but I can
only chalk it up to technology making our lives easier.
