Her songs were powerful, her voice soared, and she was joined by an absolutely amazing cast of musicians. It was also nice to see other ChalkMountaineers there - Dean Martucci, Richard Pedretti-Allen, John Relph, Mitch Friedman. Now, if only we had a Bay Area back-of-a-truck XTC gig at which to congregate... Mr. Gregory apparently couldn't make it to Becki's gig, but his spirit was effectively conjured when John Wedemeyer played the first part of Dave's "Inside the Dream" solo note-for-note. That was a great moment for me, as I think it's one of the best DG solos I've heard. Not that it presented the least bit of a challenge to extreme guitar virtuoso John. Overall, a wonderful show. But I'm not too sure why Becki asked a Led Zeppelin cover band to open up for her. <wink> - Eric Day

I mean of course the cd release party for becki di gregorio's seven worthies . . . http://www.users.dircon.co.uk/~nonsuch/bdg.htm I'm sure there will be more highly detailed accounts of the show, but here's my short version: The concert was a gas! If you enjoy John Wedemeyer's guitar playing on the album, he seems to enjoy playing as much or more as we do listening. His band warmed up and then becki came on to perform seven worthies in its entirety. The turning point for me was (no, not he Led Zeppelin medley) the performance of the song *supplication*, a very moving tribute to her brother. From that point on the music and performers reached another level, only serving to highlight the creativity and originality of the material. Bravo becki, and thanks. Your cd will be stuffing many stockings come Christmas. It was a very pleasant surprise to meet the esteemed Mr. Relph while *Senses Working Overtime* (only XTC content) played over the sound system before the show. If not for the list, I very well may have missed out on this experience altogether. Thanks to you as well. And thanks to the geography gods for landing me in Santa Cruz, CA. Regards, Andy K.

I wish I were talking about XTC on this page. However,my "opinion" about mono Sgt. Pepper being they way it's supposed to sound was actually a typo. I meant it's supposed to sound good even if you have mononucleosis. It was late and I wasn't typing very well/good. Any way I grew up listening to the mono version (even when I had mononucleosis) and I remember lots of bits that seem to have disappeared from the stereo version. At the time Pepper was recorded all stereo was basically binaural(look it up kiddies). (Ringo's drums for instance are not in stereo like they would be today.) Radio was still mono and still AM. Certainly they were trying to reach beyond that with Pepper. In interviews with George Martin (a disney special on Pepper?) and Lennon, the mono version was the one they spent the most time on. Then they basically turned the pan knobs on the four mixdown channels to the left, right or center. Not really stereo as we know it today. A nice effect none the less. I suggest listening to a mono version and see all that is missing from the stereo one. I have "learned" these things from somewhere.I didn't make it up. After they finished that, Beatles left the mixing of the stereo version to George and Geoff which they did in a few hours! This CPU has a sound card, so I spent my lunch cruising through the WAV files on the site. Thanks again to sitemeister John for the new and neat stuff. Andy's voice clips are priceless, and after hearing the Dukes' snippets, I'll have to redouble my effort to find them. I literally have never seen any of them in a store. Also, thanks to this new "business casual" schtick, I'm able to wear my Chalkhills tee to work. Almost makes up for the Dilbertian atmosphere here. I started on this project almost two years ago, and I'd still be fiddling with it, but recent postings on this subject finally convinced me to get off my butt and finish it. I just figure if Dead-Heads can have this stuff, why not us? Anyway, once you download XTsCheme.exe and run it, it will install a complete .WAV sound scheme, several nice wallpaper files, a library of 28 XTC icons, and a multi-mode screen saver (sorry, no animation, but once you see it you'll probably agree that animation would be overkill, and besides, it plays MIDI files, which is better). The total size of the installer .EXE is 517K. The installer can also optionally register everything for you (thus altering your desktop) automatically. This is NOT a Microsoft[TM] Plus!(R) Desktop Theme, so Microsoft[TM] Plus!(R) is not required. For more details and previews, please read the aforementioned web page. If you're still using Windows 3.1 you can still download a lot of the stuff as separate files. (Sorry, not the screen saver.) Basically the idea behind this project is simply to promote XTC and give me (and anyone else who's interested) something constructive to do while waiting for the next album. All I ask is that you please do not attempt to sell or re-sell the package or anything in it. And, of course, you install this stuff at your own risk and I take no responsibility for any damage done to your system, blah blah blah. So, never again must you sit in front of a boring Win95 computer screen that fails to constantly remind you of the greatest band of all time.
