Pretty cool. It removes the lead singing & brings everything else up. I always thought XTC's harmonizing was a highlight,now I get to hear it uninterupted. Have no fear Garret, there are plenty of MST3K fans out there. I have 3 originals from 1990 on tape.It is truly one of the funniest shows ever,especially with Joel. Did I see someone knock fishing a few posts back? Dems fightin' words.Our very own Colin is/was an avid fisherman. Theres nothing like spending some quality time out in the middle of nowhere hunting the wiley pisces.It gives me a chance to spend time with The Greenman. I want to use colored paper (Canson, Strathmore). Can any XTC artists give me some tips on working with these media? Please e-mail me directly. Usually, I just use black and white media. Tips on doing "color on color" would be great. Never have done it before. Thanks! Wes

I've been having a great listen at work where digging out the cassettes has always been prohibitive. Keep it up mate! Which reminds me that Fuzzy Warbles will help a lot of us who don't burn our own cd's to finally bury some old cassettes. Hurrah! Though I doubt anything really flatulent will be committed to cd so we'll never be rid of those smelly old tapes. Beck's "Mutations" has been mentioned enough in recent digests to almost make this topical. Okay, while listening to my then new cd "Mutations" I had like a really real sense of deja vu when I heard "Lazy Flies". It sounded like...an XTC song. But which one? Ah...I know! It's ****** *****. "Hmm, pretty close", I thought. So just to compare I placed them end to end on a tape. This was disappointing because it did reveal them to be fairly different (the lyrics couldn't have been more different). "Frivolous Tonight" is wonderful, an example of a really great songwriter -- totally different in his focus and his "endpoints" than his cohort -- showing what he can do. It's melodic, it's lyrical, it's derivative and at the same time original, it's perfectly arranged, it's...well, it's great. And then you listen to "do what you do what you do what you do what you do what you do to me" and think, most of the time, he didn't even write melodies back then! Like George Harrison in a way, Colin is an example of someone who needed to immerse himself in the right atmosphere long enough before the magic could come out of him. But once he figured it out, he figured it out good! And I sure am happy I have all those records so I can witness the development! I still believe that XTC is/are only XTC because both songwriters contribute and both write at such a high niveau. As much as I love Andy, I wish Colin were more prolific -- in my eyes, it would only improve the band, although they already are the best band going. Otherwise you wouldn't need "XTC", you could just buy "Andy Partridge". Of course, that'd be very good, indeed. But not as good as XTC! And only they can "do what they do" like they do it! - Jeff

From what I heard, they were headed up by someone who dearly loved MST3K and that's why it ended upon SlyFry in the first place. He recently left/was terminated and was replaced by some schmuck who absolutely *hated* MST3K, and he killed it off. It's a very sad thing. They weren't in their prime, but it was still one of the few consistenly funny shows on TV these days. Hopefully, someone (TNT perhaps) will pick it up. I think Reeves ranks up there with the few modern guitarists who can truly play from the heart, and doesn't feel the need to follow some pre-described playing method. Secondly, Bruford *and* Mastelotto play on Thrak simultaneously, as well as subsequent live offereings (B'BOOM, Thrakattak, Cirkus, & Live On Broadway) and Mastelotto is now the *sole* drummer of King Crimson. Bruford is "temporarily" out because of his insistence on using acoustic drums, and the new direction of KC is purely electronic. Pick up the new King Crimson boxset release, The ProjeKcts, for a glimpse of the future. It's truly amazing improv-based work. XTC content: Mummer finally clicked with me the other day. Being a fairly recent XTC-fan, I picked this one up about January or so, and was somewhat disappointed. It's basically sat ignored for a while, save for the occasional spin which would make me conclude once again that it didn't do much for me. However, just the other day, I brought it to work, stuck it in the CDRom and was prepared to again not like it. Bang! It just made sense that day. I think it's a problem with the production. It seems to me to be relatively lifeless among the XTC catalog. And heavy drum-machine use doesn't help. Give me a live drummer any day over a machine - or better yet, a live drummer & a drum machine playing together for some interesting interplay. Tom

Subject: The Adventure Club
Hello.
In 1993 the Edge (KDGE Dallas) put out a CD called 'The Adventure Club'.
It was pretty much acoustic songs that bands did while in the radio's
studios. Anyway, it was a limited thing and there were a bunch of cool
bands on it, including The Cranberries, Frank Black, Jellyfish, Blur, and
of course, XTC doing 'Blue Beret'.
A hard to find disc; but I just saw it on eBay. It gets better - the
guy who originally put the thing together, George Gimarc, is the seller and
he is apparently selling off his remaining stock. They are not CDRs.
Find it on eBay by searching for "XTC Blur" and it should pull up.
please note: I am in no way affiliated with KDGE, George, or anything else
- just passing along the info. I got the disc when it came out and it is
cool.
