In short, there now appears to be no sane reason to buy the Japanese (unless you're Japanese). I can see why AP decided to nix the extra demos. It might somehow tarnish the listening experience of a work of art from start to finish to hear lesser versions of already heard songs. That's what it would make sense to include them on an extra bonus CD! Chalkers,
I just wanted to let you guys and gals know that I'm sorry for my
harshness. I was in a very stressed out mood, and I took it out on you
guys who are going to buy the Japanese import. Do what you want. I
might even buy it someday, if I get the money.
As other people have said that we're all frustrated for AV to come
out, and I'm just getting so anxious to get my hands on it. And reading
the last digest the release date is yet again put back until the end of
February. I can't handle it. I'll just have to listen to the demos I
got and wait.
I know when I get it I'll play it on my radio show at school so
people can hear it. It's going to be amazing. I hope the rest of the
radio stations play it. I have connections and I'll see what I can do
here in Buffalo.
Well, enough of my ramblings.

There were maps of this imaginary land of Nihilon, too. Can't really remember much else.

Back in the 60's nuns all decided they were folksingers. Why was this? Psychic Pets-This is the title of a book I saw once. Sounds kind of 80's for a band name, though. Orange Mom-My college friend Gerri wanted to form a band with this name. She was from New Jersey, and used to pronounce it "ahrwenge". I used to buy homeaker's magazines, cut out the pictures of mothers from the ads, color them orange and mail them to her. For some reason she always found this annoying. Not to be really picky or anything, but "XTC" is not a legal scrabble
word (let alone a word at all) because it is proper name (of a group in this
case). Unless you are playing with some relaxed rules, you would
unfortunately lose your turn!
A chance to correct myself: In a recent post I'd requested that posters
refrain from commenting on any band or act other than XTC. Of course
discussion of other bands or acts is relevant. I intended to ask that we
refrain from attempting to tear apart (or to perform a "stirring" as an
Australian friend recently informed me) other bands or acts in direct ways
that only serve to piss off the fans of that group or act. Simply send
personal e-mails or keep it to yourself. This being said, I want to make it
clear that I reserve a right to rip on XTC in any way I see fit (this IS about
XTC, isn't it?) and I hope no one else hesitates in that regard. Yes we all
love XTC but some healthy negativity or doubt (about them only please!) is
good for the blood.
Looking forward to negative comments about XTC,

Which album/s are we talking about here? Methinks you might have picked up on one of their more recent - and less essential - efforts like "Priest=Aura". Try any of the early albums - "Of Skins & Heart", "Blurred Crusade", "Seance" or "Heyday". If you *think* they sounds different to you, then they are different. My point was that it is a PURELY subjective, crazy, mixed-up, wrong-headed, irrational, emotional viewpoint. You can't justify it in any scientific way ... but as long as it makes you happy, I'm happy for you. re: Sonic Youth: I'm not dissing the band, but aren't they being a bit misleading with the product description. Surely it's about time they renamed themselves ... Sonic Early-Middle-Age ? Or have they been taking those "Let's pretend to be 19 forever" classes that Bryan Adams has been getting such good marks in? I love the guy's work, but I'd be the first to admit that, like Dylan (or more recently Billy Corgan) the "trick" with Lou is accepting the fact that he just doesn't have a normal singing voice. Once you get past that, you're in. My favourite saying about Grumpy Ol' Lou is one I read from John Cale, who mused in Mojo some time ago: "How could anyone who can write such beautiful, sensitive songs be the complete opposite as a person?" As for Neil, well he sounds pretty much the same as he always did ... brilliant. My wife disagrees. She says it's a boy thing. Dunks

The argument FOR analog (though futile) still holds in principal. Current sampling technology "standards" are for mass consumption, easy deliverables and money saved (maybe not at the consumer level however eh Molly?). We eat what we're fed and devise ways to justify it. Though that web article on this subject was long it just lacked a total understanding. Don't fool your self thinking CD's aren't compressed and punched up for delivery or that outboard gear can fill in the blanks due to digitizing. A computer can't do a good job with these artistic decisions. Mini Disks are even less in fidelity, which was the compromise to a industry which was screeming for a copy protection scheme if regular folks were to record their own stuff. Hello Chalkers, I hate to admit that I'm one of those dread lurkers. I love reading the list and everyone's thoughts about all things XTC. Up until this point, I couldn't think of anything that I could say that would add anything to the proceedings...until now. Just came in from a band rehearsal, and my sweety, Jeff, sat me down and said, "I have something for you. This is your lucky day..." And about 11:00 p.m. today, Pacific Standard Time, I heard the words that I knew would soon be coming, but thrilled me to the bone when they finally arrived, emanating from the stereo speakers, courtesy of my favorite local Seattle radio station 103.7 FM, The Mountain... "...and now, some new XTC from their upcoming album, 'Apple Venus, Volume One.' The track I'll be playing for you is 'I'd Like That'..." And suddenly, out pours Andy's smooth voice, Colin's silky bass, and Dave's rhythmic acoustic guitar mixed into an aural confection that had me spinning giddily through the room. Mere words can't describe to you all what it was like to hear that song on the radio! Bittersweet, our band on the airwaves...again...finally...and with wonderful new music! Ahh!! I'm so happy for 'em; I'm beside myself! What a fangirl, I'll be high for days!!! And the song itself? Absolute bliss! I don't dare give any more detail than that. I don't want to ruin it for anyone else. Oh, and how desperately I wanted to hear more...what can I say? Jeff made an awesome recording of this first historic song, just for me to hear, 'cause he knew I was going to miss it and would be sorely disappointed. (Yes, he IS great! Thank you, Jeff!!) Well, thanks much for bearing with me, folks. I just had to share my "moment" with ya. I know we'll be hearing about many more just like it soon.
