The introductory 'leader' started off with an aerial view of a familiar hill-side carving shaped (and hung) like a horse... uncensored this time. (ref. Chalkhills picture archives to see how Dobbin's "thingy" disappeared when our Heroes performed Ball & Chain on UK TV) oh, i'd love to be running up that hill again and bust some clouds! that place is truly awe-inspiring with a strange sense of magical timelessness, as if untouched by the herds of sheep and the hordes of ramblers in their brightly coloured rain garb. I was in high school at the time, 11th grade, and was participating in a program at the theatre that allowed us to see the shows free of charge and to interact with the actors, etc., in exchange for our work as ushers. That particular night I was transporting a carful of young ladies, fellow ushers, who were talking and giggling and enjoying themselves as the news came over the radio. The loss of someone like John Lennon is incalculable to some of us, where it barely scratches the surface for others. As I pulled the car over to the curb with tears in my eyes, the young women in my car, while concerned about me and my state of mind, weren't particulary affected by the fact that this particular person had been eliminated from their lives. The laughing, the giggling, the talking continued, and I stared blankly through my rain-spattered windshield as pain, grief, loss, rage, irritation, and understanding all simultaneously vied for my emotional attention. I've never forgotten that feeling........... I find myself already wanting more new XTC music. AV1 was nourishment for a racked and ravaged XTC-seeking beast. AV2 was a wafer-thin mint. Any attempts to justify its vile and caca-flecked vapidity will be treated with contempt. Brighton (centre of the universe, fact fans) has its own radio station - Surf FM - which has its moments...there's a cool, eclectic show called Totally Wired which plays everything from indie nonsense & dance music through to Beefheart and Sly Stone, and there was a cracking world music show on Sunday afternoons (although it seems to have vanished)...loads of Cuban & African tunes - ideal for a spliff & a sunny day...on the whole though, it's the same ads-interspersed-with-shit-chart-music formula which people seem to like to so much. Personally, I think the whole point of being a passionate music fan is that you need not rely on radio & TV for new artists and music...get off your fat, scabby arse and do some scouting...commercial radio is for people who want to drown out the tedium of their lives with some inoffensive, meaningless, background chuntering, always played at a volume somewhere between barely audible and non-existent. It's for people who hear, but don't listen. For fuck's sake, why bother with your CD collection if you're happy with a medley of arse-candy prescribed by some numb-nuts with eighteen different PR todgers jammed up his holiest of holes? Eh? EH???? >>XTC's one of my alltime favorite bands. Name, Tom Kingston. Specialist subject, stating the bleedin' obvious. Today, boys and girls, we will learn about the region of Wiltshire- A mainly agricultural county in the South of England, Wiltshire covers an area of 1,343 square miles and has a population of 555,000. It has its administrative headquarters at Trowbridge with the cathedral city of Salisbury, and the towns of Swindon and Wilton, famous for its carpets, being other major centres. Wiltshire has, in Stonehenge, probably the most famous prehistoric site in Britain. Said by many to have originally been built for long forgotten mystical ceremonies Stonehenge graces the Salisbury Plain. The Plain itself has been a training ground for the British Army since the Napoleonic Wars. Along with this scenically beautiful area Wiltshire also offers Marlborough Downs, Savernake Forest and the rivers Kennet and the Salisbury and Bristol Avons as other physically attractive locations. The county lists as its main products, wheat, cattle, carpets, rubber and engineering... In our lovely, happy, diverse world, no solution or value is equally valid in every situation or place. Our ideas and beliefs may work fine for us where we might live, but not for others in the UK, where he is from, or elsewhere. And vice versa. Fair's fair.
