(please treat me kindly) 1) I love that Brookings, Place of General Happiness CD. Not having it with me at the moment I'm guessing, but I believe "Hair" would be my fave for some reason. Makes me happy. On the whole I think it's an entertaining CD, even if a bit off it's rollers. 2) Back when Partridge was doing the signing tour for AV-1, I took in my copy of the Black Sea Tour LP bootleg just to see (it was in SF, so it was just Andy). He seemed very intrigued when faced with a bootleg of his own work. He didn't know what it was right off, so I just said "bootleg" and he immediately wanted to know if the sound quality was ok. He looked it up one side and down the other, and happily signed it for me. In this case the bootlegging in question happened some years ago, and perhaps Andy was just being very polite, but regardless I don't think he was in the least bit troubled by it. Besides if someone's going to drag that puppy out, they are bound to already have spent a fortune on the legit releases. (how many "best of" collections can one man own?) That is all. Re-lurking now. As someone said in >the last post, I'm sure they're more p.o.'ed at the seller who is making >money off of them, not I, the loyal consumer.

There you can buy a half-size Chinese Spanish guitar, just like the one that Holly Partridge "lent" her Dad for the duration of the AV epic. Hold down that G chord, and start strumming. You're almost there in Andy's shed. And here's the best bit: it'll cost you a precisely 12 pounds sterling ($18 US)." I stopped by my Chicago area Ikea this afternoon (there's one across the street from where my office is) and perused the kiddie section until I ran across these guitars. This was after fighting through the millions of college-bound hoardes seeking the bigger/better storage solution for their tiny dorm cubicle. The above mentioned guitars were selling for $29.95 US plus tax. I'm sure the price difference between here and the UK has something to do with extra tariffs, security checks for cheese smuggled inside the guitar bodies, or some other interesting reason for tacking on more $. Not that this isn't a bad price for a bit of plucking, but it would have been better at $18. Then I could buy two. One to play and the other to smash after realizing that I can't play some of Andy's bizarre chord fingerings. David Lake NP: COMC Disc#2

Andy looks and sounds hopped up on goofballs at some points (which neither adds nor takes away from the music) - the whole tape is a very nice little package for someone like me who wishes he could have been there but was a wee bit too young....and not in Germany at the time. The German host of the show makes a few appearances in between the songs as well. Now I have to learn German. Iain

Message-ID: <F1294FR0rmTIVvLVKi3000000e2@hotmail.com> Hello fellow friends... I have been behind on reading the new digests and follow up posts. so here goes: James Michael Isaacs said (8-44): <Thomas Vest, you sound like a fine fellow... Any album between "Hit to Death in the Future Head" and "Yoshimii" is excellent. That is a total of 3 albums- "Transmissions from the Satellite Heart", "Clouds Taste Metallic", and the weirdo classic "Zaireeka". If you can find Zaireeka, buy it immediately, as it is getting ever so rare. I think it usually goes for 50 on eBay, but the better record stores sometimes have it. To my knowledge, it had a limited run and is out of print.> James, thanks for the compliment and the information. I picked up Transmissions.... but I have yet to find much on the Cd that I like. It makes me leary of "Clouds Taste Metallic" but I liked "Hit to death...". Zaireeka appears to be in print again at a reasonable price but who has four devices to play the disc the way its meant to be heard!? da9ve stovall also replied (8-44) with lots of good advice about the lips. Thanks for the info. I still like Yoshimi better than the Soft Bulletin... but they both are very good. Christopher R. Coolidge said (8-44): <My wife made a couple of unintentionally hilarious comments that demonstrates her blissful uncoolness about pop culture/music when I was giving Bellybutton a spin the other day; she asked "Who's this, Queen?" That was enough by itself, but she followed it by commenting that the lead singer sounded like a young Russell Hitchcock(of Air Supply). She meant that as a compliment. My wife...gotta love her.> Christopher, thanks for sharing. LMAOROTF Sughosh Varadarajan talked about purchasing Jellyfish's' Bellybutton in 8-45... did you buy it yet? vee tube said (8-49): <Dolly Parton's "Halos and Horns" is indeed the finest 'New Album' of the year! Hardcore hillbillies may beg to differ with me but I have more teeth than them!> While Dolly's album is quite good and she has been severely underrated for many years (making bad movies did not help her cause mind you), her cover version of "Stairway to Heaven" is atrocious! I am not knocking covers or anything, but her version does not work! Other things: I am envious of all the talk about vanity plates over the last year or so. almost makes me wish i had a car (not!). maybe i should get a custom made patch for my shoulder bag! Anybody heard the new Springsteen yet? I have played it a lot since it was out and give it a thumbs up! Rolling Stone gave it 5 stars... maybe 4 to 4 1/2 is better. earlier albums are still the best. anyone picked up the new aimee mann? Happy Labor day! thomas Oh, current faves: the vines / highly evolved stone roses / stone roses peter gabriel / peter gabriel #1 (told you i was going to buy one)

I'm new to this group so please forgive me if this has been covered before. A few weeks ago a friend of mine said he heard Andy Partridge on the radio - possibly radio Wales? Apparently he was being inteviewed and strumming a few chords in the studio. Can anyone confirm this and has anyone put it on the net? Many thanks, Chris.

Can someone "in the know" tell us what the hell it all means??? I can understand Colin not wanting to sink his hard-earned into another out-takes collection pitched at a small target audience, but effectively this reduces it to an AP collection, and not an XTC release at all. The beauty of an XTC release for mine has always been the way CM's tracks balance AP's- a mutually symbiotic relationship if you will. Why is he not participating??? Is it purely financial??? Does it mean, God forbid, the end of XTC as we know it???? Dom

The boss of the RIAA offers some evidence to back up your assertion that file sharing harms record sales.
