Andy: “I initially wrote this for a film set in 1965. It has a folk rock chug that's east of Merseybeat and south of the Hollies. But when I delivered the song they had no money, so I kept it instead.”

Dear Madam Barnum |
I put on a fake smile
And start the evening show
The public is laughing
I guess by now they know
So climb from your high horse
And pull this freak show down
Dear Madam Barnum
I resign as clown
You said I was the master of all I surveyed
But now I'm sweeping up
The last in line in your circus parade
Children are clapping
As I fall to the floor
My heart torn and broken
And they just scream for more
If I'm not the sole fool
Who pulls his trousers down
Then dear Madam Barnum
I resign as clown
You tread the high wire
Between truth and lies
Your safety net just walked out
Much to your surprise
Strike up the band love
And let the show begin
For this is the last time
I'm painting on a grin
If I'm not the sole fool
Who pulls his trousers down
Then dear Madam Barnum
I resign as clown

Great !
Now, after "Skylarking", here's the 17 songs of "Nonsuch" (well 16,
because there's no bass in "Rook") tabbed !
It was harder, because it was longer, and also because sometimes the
bass was mixed pretty low, so maybe tabs like "Humble Daisy" or
"Wrapped In Grey" are inaccurate.
Cheers

It is easy to play this chord if you play G as 320033; it's just a matter of moving fingers 1 and 2 over one string. Chandler

In many places I did not try to figure out Exactly what was going on - I listened to the music and tried to figure out what chords I would play if I were to accompanying on on the piano. So probably many of the guitar chords are simpler than I've made them out to be. Also, in some places where I've indicated how to voice chords, it is just how I find it convenient, and not necessarily what they are doing on the record. I also left out lots of bass stuff, only including it where I thought it was important. But everything should be pretty close. Comments and corrections are welcome! Voicings are notated with low E on the left, high E on the right. DEAR MADAM BARNUM Intro: C F C G7 2x Verse: C F C/E G7/D* 6x C F/D C/E G7 C F C G C Bridge 1: Fm Fm/Ab C Ddim7 D7 G Verse Bridge 2: Am Bbmaj7** Dm Em G Intro Verse Ending: A few more times through the verse line and a C F C G C to end things off * often Colin plays D and then G under this chord ** actually, along with the vocals, it's more like a Bb13#7, but this sounds fine on the guitar... - Dan
