Shalloween is the one night of the year when the face mask slips and we see who we really are. Shalloween is the one night we should fear when the fabric rips and we glimpse every private scar. Midnight chimes, the witching hour. I'm sweet to strangers but inside I'm sour, and the darkness is lighting up all that it can. Dead of night but I'm cursed with life, a jack-o-lantern hollowed by a knife, and I'm praying don't leave me alone with this man on shalloween. Shalloween is the one night of the year when the face mask slips and we see who we really are. Memory calls, not for trick or treat but to push its skewer through my thinking meat, and the mirror pictures a crumbling sham.
