Andy: “I had no idea that Dave Gregory's kinky thing was reproducing his favourite records in atomic exactitude, until I caught him doing it. Dropping in on him in September 1985 for a cuppa, I was astounded to hear a near complete ‘Strawberry Fields’, recorded in his front room on a TEAC A3440 4 track machine. Even more amazing was the fact that he didn't own a mixer, recording everything straight onto the tape, and that he'd figured out and played all the parts himself. I was stunned, then he asked me to sing it for him. Shocked and stunned. Dave now readily admits it's an illness (but a very enjoyable one), I too, became mildly infected from then on. Just don't ask to hear his ‘McArthur Park’ or ‘Twenty First Century Schizoid Man’.”
