Is O&L very different from XTC's previous stuff? O&L is my first XTC album;
what should I go for next (in order...?) And don't say `the lot!'.

BTW, guess what I found in the depths of my record collection the other
night---it was GO+, a free 12inch EP given away with an ancient XTC album
I think (anyone...?) and I got it s/hand in, oohhhhh... must be 1979.

Why am I telling you all this? :-) Thanks!

The idea of a compilation tape sounds great to me. I would also be interested
in the 'rare' stuff, too. Perhaps two different tapes?

Subject: Dave Gregory's vocals

While I was listening to the song "Chalkhills and Children" the other
day, and subsequently some material I taped from the Boston XTC
radio performance, I was wondering to which songs Dave Gregory makes
strong vocal contributions. The reason I mention the song "Chalkhills
and Children" is that toward the end of the song, the lyric '... even
I never know where I go when my eyes are all closed ...' definitely
isn't sung by Colin (who has an easily recognized "wispy" voice),
and I'm not convinced that it's sung by Andy, so I'm tempted to believe
that it's sung by Dave. Is this true? Some of the backup vocals
in the radio show are definitely sung by Dave, although they are
mixed *way* down.

What are some instances of XTC songs that feature Dave more easily
recognized as a vocalist (not in unison with either Colin or Andy)?

I just got the Dukes of Stratosphear (both albums on the Choc CD). Great!
I'd love to know all the secrets---what are the references (musical and
otherwise)? Who is the young girl? Who exactly are the musicians? Etc etc!
Any trivia gratefully received!

Thanks

Terry Chambers is heard on "Wonderland" and "Beating of Hearts" on Mummer.

As for the mix problems, I don't know; but I do know that Virgin didn't
think there were any potential hit singles on the first version, which
resulted in the addition of "Great Fire" (which seemed to me like a bit
too obvious attempt to replicate "Senses Working Overtime" -- quirky
rhythms in the quiet verses, which are linked by a big stompy chorus).

Yes, I think two different tapes are in order.

The first will be a compilation of the various recent radio
appearances. Since many of the songs performed were duplicated on two
or more shows, we should probably try to put only the best (most
interesting) performance of each song on the tape. The remainder of
the tape (C-90) would then be the most interesting interview material.
There is also the body of material from the recent KFJC XTC Special
(all 5 1/2 hours worth) to choose from.

The second tape would be a "rarities" tape, trying to cover the
hard-to-find B-sides, live material, demos, and other interesting
stuff. Again, this tape will probably be a C-90. Material from the
KFJC special could possibly show up here, too. However, I would like
to put off the rarities tape until the radio shows tape is finished.
I have a day job, too.

Please, if you have recordings of any of the radio broadcasts, and I
haven't heard from you, please let me know.

Thanks to Joe Lynn for the copy of the _Goldmine_ article, complete
with discography. The discography points out a couple of interesting
facts, and now I am really confused. The _Goldmine_ discography lists
both _BBC Rock Hour_ (live from 1980) and _BBC College Concert_ (live
from 1981) discs. I have heard the second of the two, has anybody
heard the _Rock Hour_? Has anybody seen it? Does anybody have a
tape? What's on it? etc.
