Demo version.
Released in September 2004 on Fuzzy
Warbles Volume Six in the U.K.
Andy: “Finally a song from 1990 that fell out from between ‘The Ugly Underneath’ and ‘Holly Up On Poppy’ timewise. I remember kicking it about half-heartedly in rehearsals of Nonsuch but something was bugging me about it. Was it too related to ‘Seagulls Screaming’ musically, lyrically? Something didn't click. But hey, it sounds fine to my ears now, not a bad song at all. In fact is this one of my better lyrics ever? Why do seasides in Britain do this to me? With their sense of forced jollity and monumental decay. They are places of surreality, disappointment and fractured friendships. One long self abusement arcade. A look at the dream until the coin in the telescope drops with the sign ‘Out of Time’, and we are. See you on seven and eight.”
[THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK]
rock legs gammon garter kicking
trip week to the floor and
kiss me quick one last timepinball plimsoll plaice and perfume,
vinegar the sweet fish
swims away from my linewhat the butler saw was heaven
ice cream clam and legs eleven
what the butler saw was heaven
now the coin's dropped
it's clear
guess this is the end of the pieryou look saucy in the
Stetson beetle fringe and bingo!
we'll pretend we're newlyweds
postcards, home you went
the tide comes in
to melt our castle
built alone in sandy bedswhat the butler saw was heaven
cat who got the cream in Devon
what the butler saw was heaven
now the coin's dropped
it's clear
guess this is the end of the pierkiss me quick and squeeze me slow oh oh oh
out goes love and in comes woe woe woewhat the butler saw was heaven
ice cream clam and legs eleven
what the butler saw was heaven
now the coin's dropped
it's clear
we can go no further than here
(now I realize that I'm the souvenir)
so what the butler saw was heaven
cat who got the cream in Devon
what the butler saw was heaven
now the coin's dropped
it's clear
guess this is the end

I've posted a score (PDF) for "End Of The Pier". Has chords for you guitar types. As I have time to write out scores or lead sheets, I'll post them as well. Any other contributions in this department are appreciated. -- Jefferson Ogata : Internetworker, Antibozo <ogata (at) antibozo dot net> http://www.antibozo.net/ogata/
